3.9 lb Whole Air Chilled Chicken $7.76 ($1.99/lb)

I should be stocked up on meat for a long while (hopefully).

Whole Foods

Steak Tips $40.27 ($12.99/lb)
90% Ground Beef $17.91 ($5.99/lb)
Boneless Skinless Chicken Breast $17.47 ($4.99/lb)
2 Three Sisters Cereal @ $2.00 each (reg. $3.79 each)
Organic Puffed Rice Cereal $2.19 (my kids love this stuff)
1.59 lb Russet Potatoes $2.37
Onions $1.99
2.69 lb Red Potatoes $4.01
365 Vegan Chocolate Chips $3.49
Earth Balance Spread $3.99
Less $70 in gift cards ($50 was a gift from my mom and $20 was free from Amex)

Total: $27.69

Day-um those steak tips are expensive but I'm so over buying the junk from Shaws/Stop and Shop/BJ's.   I wanted to start buying my family higher quality meat and now I'm putting my money where my mouth is. We should be good for awhile with meat which means I'll only buy if there is a great deal.

I know the potatoes were a bit pricey but Whole Foods is the only place that seems to sell potatoes that aren't rotten in the middle. Nothing pisses me off more than potatoes that are rotten in the middle.

Whole Foods- More Meat

Bottom Round Roast $16.47 ($4.99/lb)
Boneless Pork Chops $8.23 ($4.99/lb)
Pork Loin Roast $15.42 ($4.99/lb)
85% Ground Beef $15.43 ($5.49/lb)
1.99 lb Organic Popcorn Kernals $3.56 ($1.79/lb)
1 lb Strawberries $3.99
Earth Balance Buttery Spread $3.50
2 Whole Foods Frozen Burritos @ $1.79 each
$20 Whole Foods gift card

Total: $70.18 after $20 statement credit for using my Amex

I bought the gift card to get my total over $75 so I could get the statement credit (info on the deal here).

In my eyes, the meat was a great deal. Now I just have to find some recipes for the roasts I bought!

The popcorn was a hands down awesome deal- way, way cheaper than what I was paying at the grocery store (yeah bulk bins). What a cheap and healthy snack for the kids (we eat it plain- yum)!

I bought the burritos as a quick snack for myself. I was buying the cheap ones from the grocery store but then I realized that the reason they were so cheap was that they were made from crap. I guess you get what you pay for.

Whole Foods

Total: about $50

This trip was from last Wednesday. I don't have the exact amount because I wasn't paying attention when the cashier asked if I wanted a receipt and said no.

The split chicken breast was on sale for $2.99 a pound so I stocked up and bought about 10 pounds. They are portioned two breasts to a package and are ready to just pop into the freezer which makes my life way easier.

I also got some organic apples ($1.99/lb), organic pears ($1.99/lb), a tomato ($2.99/lb), 3 organic kiwis (3 for $1), green beans ($1.99/lb), overpriced fruit snacks (on sale for $3.50 each instead of $4.79 each), purple potatoes ($1.49/lb) and flowers that my daughter carried through the store and beat to death ($2).

If anyone is wondering, the purple potatoes are actually purple on the inside. I though the skins were just purple, like how red potatoes have red skin but are white in the middle. Boy was I surprised when I cut into those babies! The tasted good but had a more earthy flavor than regular potatoes. My husband and kids would not touch them with a ten foot pole.

This whole eating all natural meat thing is pretty stinking pricey. Oh well, at least it tastes way better than the stuff at the normal grocery store.

Whole Foods

1.68 lb Russet Potatoes $2.50 ($1.49/lb)
365 Sliced Beets $1.19
5 lb Bag Organic Red Potatoes $5.49
1.07 lb Hake (fish) $6.41 ($5.99/lb)
12.71 lb Split Chicken Breast $25.30 ($1.99/lb)
Less .10 reusable bag refund

Total: $40.79

My goals for this trip were to get the $1.99/lb split chicken breast and the $5.99/lb hake. We had the hake for dinner tonight and it was really good. My husband was really apprehensive to try it because the absolute only fish he will eat is haddock but he ended up liking it (probably because it looked just like haddock and tasted almost the same as haddock).

I am going to try and only buy my meat from Whole Foods from now on because it tastes way better and is much higher quality than the stuff that is sold at the grocery stores. To make sure that I don't go bankrupt doing that I am going to stock up when they have sales- a few weeks ago I stocked up on boneless chicken breast and this week on split chicken breast. I can't wait to see what is on sale this coming week- hopefully it's red meat because I have chicken coming out of my eyeballs.

Whole Foods- Finally Used My Voucher!

1 lb Sirloin Steak Tips $9.99 (for dinner)
1.3 lb Organic Pears $3.24
1.73 lb Russet Potatoes $2.58 (for dinner)
Nature's Rancher Beef Hot Dogs $5.99
Less .05 reusable bag refund
Less $20 Living Social voucher (paid $10 for it)

Total: $1.75
Actual Cost: $11.75

My voucher was expiring very soon so I finally got to go use it, thanks to my mom taking the two older kids for the day.

The steak tips were very good- way more tender than what I usually buy at BJ's or the regular supermarkets. The potatoes and pears were not partially rotten like the potatoes and pears I buy at the regular supermarket. Hmmm, I see a pattern here. Is it that Stop and Shop and Shaws have awful produce sections and do not care at all about the quality of food they are selling to their customers? If Whole Foods was closer to me I would be buying all of my produce there because I would rather pay a little more and know that I won't end up throwing half of it away because it is total crap.

The hot dogs were a decent price. They don't have any weird chemicals or nitrates in them and are all beef- still not what I would call healthy food but definitely more wholesome than what I normally come across. They'll be good for a once in awhile treat for the kids lunches.

I totally swoon over Whole Foods...

Whole Foods

Health is Wealth Chicken Nuggets $4.99
Earth's Best Fish Nuggets $4.99
Mom Made Pizza Pockets $3.79 - Free MC Coupon
Well Kids Chicken Hot Dogs $4.99

Total: $13.77
The cashier took off $4.99 for my free coupon instead of what the price really was- I guess they aren't too used to coupons at Whole Foods.

I am very happy with what I got. The chicken nuggets and fish nuggets are breaded in whole wheat bread crumbs and don't have tons of artificial and junky ingredients. I have been looking for healthier hot dogs for my son and these chicken ones are great- there are only a few ingredients in them and are better for him than beef hot dogs. I now have some foods that I can use to get my daughter to eat meat and open up her food repertoire a bit.

I went to the Whole Foods in Dedham, Ma and wowza- it is huge. I was also pleasantly surprised to see that they have a huge wine selection and that they sell beer. What really floored me was that Whole Foods had wine for $2.99 a bottle (with a screw cap) and really nice looking wine with a real cork for $3.99 a bottle! I will so have to buy some the next time I make a trip there.

Shopping at Whole Foods in general is such a lovely experience (except when I have to bring the kids and my daughter is being a little monster). Everyone is so polite and the store is so nice and neat. It is the polar opposite of the Wal-Mart in my town which I would rather cut off both of my hands than ever step foot into again (horribly ignorant and rude customers and the store is just a hot mess in general). If only I were rich enough to do all of my shopping at Whole Foods but I'm not so I will just have to suffice on once in awhile visits.
