My son's 3rd birthday party is on Sunday and I have pretty much waited until last minute to get everything together. There aren't going to be many people there- just family. My son doesn't have any friends yet so this is my last calm birthday party because I know next year will be a little crazy when he'll want to invite his little nursery school friends.
So, anyways; even though it will be a small party (as in less than 10 people), I like to make things nice so I may go a little overboard.
Food:
Hot Dogs (Hebrew National- paid $1 a package)
Hamburgers
BBQ Chicken Legs (on sale at Shaws next week for $1 a lb)
Potato Salad
Pasta Salad (Wacky Mac and Wishbone Dressing- both were free) tomatoes, cucumbers, olives
Fruit Salad- watermelon, cantaloupe, strawberries, blueberries, kiwi
Salad- lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, olives
Chips
Cake- cake made from scratch and *maybe* frosting made from scratch
Some other kind of dessert- maybe chocolate chip cookies or brownies
Drinks:
Beer (is that white trash?)
Wine Coolers
Soda- Pepsi, Sprite, Root Beer, Orange Soda
Water
Juice Boxes
I bought a Spiderman pinata, tablecloth, balloons and napkins. I already have plain plates, extra napkins and cutlery.
Tomorrow I am going to go through my pantry to see what I will need to pick up at the store. I will most likely be going to BJ's and Shaws for the remainder of what I need.
It is pretty much going to be a mad rush on Saturday night when I get home from work to bake the cake and decorate it but it will be worth it when my son sees it. I'll also have to make to make all of the various salads, marinate the chicken and make another dessert.
As far as birthdays gifts go I am going to raid my toy closet. He'll probably get My Toon TV dance game thing and some board games. I know it sounds boring but I know he'll be getting cool stuff from my parents and in-laws and we just bought him a John Deer Gator power wheel for Easter (overkill, I know) so he doesn't need us to drop a wad of cash on him.
Thats what toy closets are for...or in my case filled to the brim under my stairs! I always shop for birthdays and other peoples kids birthday and x mas under there my kids get the luxury of going through the toy books around x mas time and picking a few things..
